Marriage is a great celebration. It is an act of worship in which a man and a woman commit their lives to each other in the presence of God and before witnesses. Marriage is a journey towards union. It reflects the journey towards union with God which we are all called to. It is a sign of God’s love and of our calling to be one in Jesus Christ. Through marriage husband and wife offer self-giving love to each other, they pledge to support and care for each other in good and in bad times. Marriage is also given as the foundation of family life in which children are born and nurtured.
If one or both of you live (or has lived) in the parish of St Chad (Farringdon, East and Middle Herrington, and Gilley Law/Lakeside) then you are eligible to be married at St Chad’s.
There is also provision which allows a couple to marry at St Chad’s if one of them has another connection with the church but doesn’t live in the parish. These conditions are very closely specified. Please contact us if you’d like to check whether you are eligible to marry at St Chad’s.
The Church of England has a website designed to help plan weddings called Your Church Wedding. You may find this a useful resource in helping to plan a wedding.
To book a wedding please come to church on any Monday evening between 6.30 and 7.30pm.
